12.1 | Read why Alifa is sad in the bubble. And in pairs identify the simple present, past and future tenses from her speech. If needed have a look at the class 6 English book, unit “Medha’s Dream“.

Student-1: Let’s identify the simple present, past and future tenses from Alifa’s speech. You can say first.
Student-2: Well. The first sentence is in simple present tense. Now your turn.
Student-1: The second one is also in simple present tense.
Student-2: The third sentence is in simple past tense.
Student-1: Ok. Now it’s my turn. The fourth sentence is in simple future tense.
Student-2: The last sentence is in simple present tense.
Student-1: But a part of it ‘I will remember this!” is in simple future tense.

Student-2: I can see my teacher and lots of my friends inside the classroom. Besides I can also see a table, a chair, many benches, etc. Moreover, I can see paintings and posters on various themes hanging on the wall. What can you see outside of the classroom?
Student-1: Outside of the classroom, I can see the playground covered with grass, I can also see our beautiful flower garden in one corner of the playground. Moreover, I can see Karim uncle there.

12.3 | Read the note on the Present Continuous Tense in the box and discuss in pairs/groups.

Student-1: Can you tell me something about present continuous tense?
Student-2: Sure. Present continuous tense talks about an action taking place at the moment of speaking. For example- I am doing my homework.
Student-3: Besides, it talks about an action that may not be exactly happening when speaking. For example- Rita is learning French.
Student-2: Do you know the sentence structure of present continuous tense?
Student-1: Yes. The sentence structure of present continuous tense is;
am/is/are + main verb + ing (am/is/are + main verb-এর সাথে ing যোগ)
and the negative sentence structure of present continuous tense is (এবং না-বোধক ঘটমান বর্তমান কালের বাক্য গঠন হলো):
am/is/are + not + main verb + ing. (am/is/are +not + main verb-এর সাথে ing যোগ)
Student-3: Present continuous tense can also be used in an interrogative sentence. Then the structure will be ; am/is/are + subject + main verb + ing
Student-1: There are some exceptional verbs which are not normally used in the continuous form.
Such as: see, hear, smell, notice, feel, etc.

Ans: Four tenses are used in the conversation. They are present simple tense, present continuous tense, past simple tense and future simple tense.
b) “Salima returned from school a while ago.”- what is the tense of this. sentence?
Ans: The tense of this sentence is past simple.
c) ‘I am study.”- Is the sentence correct? if not, write the correct form of the sentence.
Ans: No, the sentence is not correct. The correct form of the sentence is ‘I am studying.’
d) “I have completed half of the assignment last night.”- what is the tense form of the verb of this sentence? Why has Salina used this tense form of the verb?
Ans: The tense form of the verb of this sentence is present perfect. Salima has used this tense form of the verb mistakenly.
e) “I will help you with your chores.”- why did Salima use the Future Indefinite tense in this sentence?
Ans: Salima used the future indefinite/simple tense in this sentence because she referred to the time which was yet to come.
f) “The mother calls her daughter.”- Identify the verb of the sentence. And what is the tense form of the verb of the sentence?
Ans: The verb of the sentence is ‘calls’. The tense form of the verb of the sentence is present indefinite/present simple.

12.13 | In pairs/groups read the following situations and write them within 5-10 sentences using appropriate tenses.
a) Suppose you are visiting a book fair. Describe your experience (of what have you done there).
Ans: Yesterday I visited a book fair. It was a new experience for me. I went there with my parents. I bought various types of story books. I also took autographs from the writers. I wanted to visit every stall but couldn’t because it was a very large book fair. Suddenly I met one of my friends there and felt very excited. After buying several books, I returned home.
b) Suppose you attended a picnic at your school. Describe the most interesting activities your friends did at the picnic.
Ans: Last Monday, I attended a picnic in my school. We had it at our school campus. Cultural programme was also there and my friends performed many intéresting activities. Such as, Shuvo sang a song written in his dialect. Besides Sayma acted on a current issue which was also very interesting. Monir told jokes and made us laugh. Moreover there was a segment named “act as you like” which seemed most interesting to me.
c) Describe some of the interesting things you have done until now.
Ans: I have done some interesting things. Such as visiting national zoo, visiting national museum etc. Both in the zoo and museum, I went with my parents. I got amazed seeing the vast area of the national zoo. I got introduced with so many birds and animals there. I saw Royal Bengal tiger and Lion which I had never seen before. However, I liked the peacock most. On the other hand, visiting the national museum was another kind of experience. I saw various types of historical, national, cultural things there.
d) Suppose, on the last vacation you made a train journey from Dhaka to Rajshahi with your family. Write about that vacation.
Ans: The last vacation was very significant to me. In that vacation, I experienced many interesting things including my first train journey. I made a train journey from Dhaka to Rajshahi with my family. It was also my first journey to Rajshahi. Rajshahi is a beautiful and clean city. We visited University of Rajshahi and many famous spots there. People of Rajshahi are very cordial and friendly. I also came to know that Rajsahahi is famous for mango. We tasted various types of mangoes. However, the vacation seems to me very special as I visited new places and experienced new things.
