A Discontented Soul
Once upon a time, a noble man built a grand house. On the front of the gate he wrote the words, “This house is to be given to the first man who can prove that he is contended.” One day a stranger knocked at the gate and desired to speak to the noble man. The noble man appeared and minutely listened to the stranger. The stranger tried his best to prove him a contented man in various ways. He told the stories of his satisfied life. It took a long time. Gradually the sun dropped down the farthest horizon. The noble man simply said, “Ok, you must be very tired. Please take rest and we shall talk tomorrow.” The noble man made all arrangements to entertain the stranger. Having the dinner, the stranger went to bed. The bed was very rich, soft and fine.Early in the morning the noble man came to say the stranger a good day. But he found him so much tired. His eyes were swollen, and red. “What happened to you? Couldn’t you sleep ‘well at night?” the noble man asked. “No, not at all. I was thinking all night how I could improve the house when I would get it,” the stranger replied. Instantly the noble man found a discontented soul in the stranger and refused to give him the house.
