Get-up Doesn’t Matter Judging A Man
Sheikh Saadi was a great poet in Iran. He used to lead a very simple life. Once on hiss way to the court of the king of Iran, he took shelter in a nobleman’s house for a night. He was then in a very simple dress. The nobleman and other people of that house took Saadi to be a common man. So, they did not deal on well with him. The dish they served him as dinner was, also very simple. However, the great poet received all their treatments easily and left the house in the next morning for the court. On his returning from the court, Sheikh Saadi spent a night in the same nobleman’s house. This time he was wearing rich dresses. The nobleman and his family thought that he would be an aristocrat. So, they respected him duly and gave him rich foods to eat. But Sheikh Saadi began to put the foods in his pocket. At this, the nobleman was astonished. He asked the poet, “What’s the matter, Sir. Is there anything wrong?” “This food is for my dress. Had it been not so, I would have been treated in the same manner when I was very simply dressed,” replied the poet. The nobleman could realize what mistake he had made. He was ashamed of his behaviour. He begged pardon. Really dress does not make a man great.
