Padma Bridge
Padma multipurpose bridge is a dream project in Bangladesh across the river Padma. This bridge has connected Mawa of Munshiganj with Janjira of Shariatpur. It is the longest bridge in our country and the sixth-largest multipurpose bridge in the world. It is also attractive and eye-catching.
At first, it was a great challenge for Bangladesh to construct this bridge without any foreign aid. But dreams come to reality. It’s construction started on December 7, 2014. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated it on June 25, 2022. It was built by China Major Bridge Engineering Construction Company Limited with steel and concrete. The total length of this bridge is 6.15 km and width is 18.10 meters. It has both highway and railway. Railway is at the top and the highway is at the bottom. Besides, there are more lines for gas, power and optical fiber. Again, it has 41 spans and each span is 150 meters long. Government has spent over 30,000 crores to build this longest construction.
By this gigantic bridge, the people of the southern part have directly connected with the eastern part of the country. So, it will bring a revolutionary change in the economic sector and communication system specially for the southern part of Bangladesh. In fact, Padma Bridge will play a very important role for the development of the southern region of Bangladesh.
