Tit For Tat
Once there were a crane and a fox. They were good friends. Once the fox invited the crane to dine with him on the following day. The crane gladly accepted the invitation. On the following day the crane went to dine with the fox. The cunning fox had prepared nothing but soup. He placed this soup in a flat dish. The fox asked the crane to begin eating. The crane could not eat the soup from the flat dish with long beak. He stood by while the fox was eating easily with his tongue. “Why are you not eating at all, friend?” said the cunning fox. The crane said nothing and was inwardly shocked. He understood the fox’s mischief. However, before he left, he invited the fox to dine with him in his house. He prepared a good dinner. He put the foods in two pitchers with long and narrow necks. The fox came at the fixed time. The crane placed two pitchers on the mat. Then he asked the fox to begin eating. The poor fox looked blank while the crane was eating to his heart’s content with the help of his long neck. The fox’s mouth watered at the smell of the food. But alas! he could eat nothing. He understood how the crane took revenge on him. He went back as hungry as he had been. The lesson of the story goes like this “Tit for tat.”
